With hardware requirements of 640k of RAM, 10Mhz processor, and 7MB of storage it’s not surprising that MS had to announce the end of Windows 3.x licensing. After all, it also required an investment in a CGA, EGA, or VGA monitor and who can afford that. I’ll give it some credit though – it is completely compatible with DOS, but still with those requirements, who needs a GUI?
I know it sounds ludicrous by today’s standards, but it’s still the same old story whenever we’re faced with an upgrade. Want proof? Just look at the passion behind the ongoing XP versus Vista debates.
Win 3.x had a great run and it’s sad to see it go. Microsoft officially ended 3.x licensing on Nov. 1 2008. Guess it’s time to upgrade.
