Windows 7, Again

clip_image002After Microsoft’s PDC, more information about Windows 7 has surfaced. To sum it up: Windows 7 is Vista done right. While Windows 7 isn’t a complete rebuild of Vista, every aspect of the OS has been evaluated and tweaked. And beyond the eye candy, Windows 7 promises to be a performance optimized, less bloated and more stable operating system.

For a complete rundown of the changes and updates in Windows 7 see Paul Thurrott’s SuperSite for Windows.

  1. So what do you guys think of the new interface? I see a lot of OS 10 coming through – especially in the tasbar and system tray.

  2. There is only so many way to interpret the Desktop GUI and Apple excels at changing it up. I think it’s fair to say that the interface has similarities to MAC OS but I’ll wait to actually use if to see if that’s a positive or negative. I have to admit I like Vista’s navigation and eyecandy, I’m not such a fan of MAC OS X. I’d also say that the closer the systems come to a unified interface the better.

From what I understand Snow Leopard with have strong networking and groupware support out of the box. If that’s the case I think we will see more MACs in business, thus pushing training and education to new heights. Anything to reduce user frustration is a plus in my book.

On the other side I’d encourage Apple to take a feature from MS. Include native VM support within the OS so those who need to use Windows can just mount images without third party tools.
