Choose any address in the United States and near.ly will send you updates via Twitter direct message of any news and blog posts happening within 1,000 feet.
Upon signing up, the “nearlybot” adds itself to you Twitter followers. Choose to receive device updates to get instant news delivered via text.
Near.ly allows you to follow more than one location, which is convenient if I want to follow what’s happening around home and the office.
The one down-side? I signed-up 24 hours ago and have yet to receive one update. Upon further investigation, the “nearlybot” profile on Twitter says that it was down for awhile and is trying to catch-up (that was on Nov. 13). Let’s hope that it doesn’t take them too much longer to “catch-up” – this sounds like it would be a valuable Twitter tool.
