I'm playing around with Foursquare too, Kristin, and I haven't quite figured out the draw yet. It's definitely a strange little app.

I'm not as interested in the actual app, though, as I am the overall notion of location-based features and services. As mobile continues to alter our online and social experiences, location-based services inevitably will play a big role. Imagine "checking in" to your favorite supermarket and immediately receiving an e-mail with coupons for items that are on sale there. Or a real estate app that will immediately give you a list of homes for sale in your area and directions to each property. It's coming.

As for the creeps ... there's a pretty big creep factor in every social tool out there. As you said, the key is filtering out the creeps and following people who provide value to you.

That said, until I figure out Foursquare, I've altered my settings so that my updates are not posted anywhere else. Turns out I really don't want the world knowing where I am every minute, either. :-)
